About while it lasts

The world is full of extraordinary moments. The trick is knowing when to be there.

While It Lasts is a travel magazine built around timing. We cover the wildlife migrations, natural phenomena, cultural traditions, seasonal flavors, festivals, sporting events, and adventures that make a place worth experiencing at a particular moment in time.

Right Place. Right time

You can visit a destination anytime. But some experiences demand that you arrive at exactly the right moment.

For a few weeks, millions of monarch butterflies fill the forests of Mexico. A desert erupts in wildflowers after the right combination of rain and temperature. Whales arrive along a coastline. A harvest begins. A centuries-old festival transforms a city for three days. A river reaches the conditions adventurers wait for all year.

Those are the stories we tell.

While It Lasts helps travelers discover what’s happening, where it’s happening, when to go, and how to experience it before the moment passes.

Why while it lasts?

Travel inspiration is everywhere. We believe travel can be so much more than a checklist of destinations. It should be experiential and meaningful.

Too often, we discover an extraordinary experience after it’s already happened, or get lost in endless stories about where others went, but not why.

We think the why matters most.

So, we created While It Lasts.

This isn’t a magazine about collecting destinations. It’s about experiencing places when something remarkable is happening there, and giving travelers enough information and inspiration to actually make the journey.
